Abstract: The narrative of educational technologies and digital learning has unfolded in the last 25 years, but it might come with unexpected surprises. Recently, AI has been considered a force reshaping education, but there are many concerns and discussions on how this effect takes place. Indeed, scholarly work is uncovering the criticalities around technological promises of increasing the quality education for all. In this context, our feeling of discomfort and uncertainty as actors into the educational system pave the way to imagine different educational futures. We tend to discuss: with or without technology? But maybe the debate can be recentred around the question: with which social and ethical understandings should we use and respond to this technology?

The following key questions will be addressed.

·         Will AI and data change education?

·         What is the connection between (critical) data literacy and the use of AI in teaching and learning?

·         What kind of ethical questions are key for using AI and data in education?
