Expertise in education for refugee teachers

The research project "Bildungswissenschaftliche Grundlagen für Lehrkräfte mit Fluchthintergrund" (expertise in education for refugee teachers) aims at covering the (educational) backgrounds as well as the current needs of teachers with a refugee background. Based on the results of the survey, the team of Michelle Proyer, head of the project at the University of Vienna, developed a concrete practice-relevant pilot project in the form of a certificate course. Selected participants can obtain a qualification for working as a secondary school teacher in Austria.

The course, which has been specifically developed for refugee teachers, will be carried out over the course of two semesters in cooperation with the Stadtschulrat Wien (Vienna Board of Education), the AMS Lower Austria and the AMS Vienna. Funding for the certificate course comes from the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs (BMEIA). The language of instruction is German. The participants complete the course with a certificate.
