ARPIDE Workshop in Graz – From Policy to Practice in Multilingual and Intercultural Education

27.04.2026

On 14 and 15 April 2026, a two-day workshop of the ARPIDE project took place at the European Centre for Modern Languages of the Council of Europe in Graz.

Participants from across Europe came together to discuss how the transition from language policy approaches to concrete practice in multilingual and intercultural education can be achieved. The ARPIDE workshop was part of the ECML programme “Language education at the heart of democracy” and was linked to Recommendation CM/Rec(2022)1 of the Council of Europe on the importance of plurilingual and intercultural education for a democratic culture.

In addition to insights into the first project results, the workshop focused primarily on exchange and hands-on activities. Participants explored shared challenges as well as context-specific needs and tested ARPI, the future ARPIDE chatbot, which is designed to support users in navigating the extensive ECML materials.

A central component of the workshop was the ARPIDE Path, a tool for linking policy and practice. Working in groups, participants developed approaches to identify their own needs, connect them with relevant principles, and select and adapt appropriate materials. The focus was on practical implementation across different educational and institutional contexts, as well as on the reflective use of existing resources.

The insights and feedback gained during the workshop will feed into the further development of ARPIDE tools and the planned online platform. The aim is to support educators across Europe not only through materials, but also through structured and flexible frameworks for their work.
