The Language Centre of Masaryk University in Brno hosted an international conference on plurilingual and pluricultural approaches in language education from 28 to 29 May 2026. Researchers and educators from across Europe and beyond discussed how plurilingualism can be productively integrated into schools, teacher education, and language teaching.

The Unit for Language Teaching and Learning Research was represented by two contributions. On the first day of the conference, Eva Vetter delivered the keynote lecture “Engaging with Plurilingualism: Three Perspectives on How Teachers Make a Difference.”

Drawing on three perspectives—teacher education, teachers’ beliefs, and materials for plurilingual education—she demonstrated how teachers can actively contribute to the shift towards plurilingual teaching practices. Among other topics, she presented findings from a service-learning project involving the Uni Club and its role in the professional development of pre-service teachers, as well as results from a Europe-wide survey conducted within the PEP project.

Denis Weger presented findings from an empirical study examining the extent to which the language-biographical experiences of pre-service teachers influence their evaluation of multilingual teaching strategies.
