The aim of the project is to facilitate research-based knowledge for teacher training programs to challenge processes of exclusion in education and consequently, to contribute to strengthening social cohesion with a special focus on (forced) migration and diversity in society. The overall objective is to contribute to the development of scientific knowledge regarding education, inclusion, disability, and migration; and to develop the capacity of teachers and professionals in the area of education, inclusion, disability, and migration. The project uses participatory research on educational experiences and identities of students with migration background as well as teaching practices in inclusive schools as a basis to develop evidence-based training materials and workshops. By incorporating findings into teacher training programs at the partner institutions, it will have sustainable impact on the knowledge and skills of future teachers and contribute to the innovation of teaching pedagogy for people with migration background and disability.

Project Focus

The project focuses on teacher training to equip future teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide inclusive learning environments especially for children with disability and migration background. To better understand processes of exclusion and inclusion in education, the project investigates educational practices and their relationship to diversity, disability, and migration in educational settings. Empirical international research covering diverse contexts, that examines educational experiences and teaching practices with respect to diversity, disability, and migration in education is regarded as a key element to deepen the understanding of teaching practices in inclusive settings as well as to inform teacher training programs.
