We:Design
A participative approach to digital empowerment for youths in the employment context
In particular, socioeconomically disadvantaged young people with inadequate technical equipment and limited digital or job application skills are put at an additional disadvantage on what is already a difficult path to the labor market - with negative consequences for those affected, society, and the economy.
In the We:Design project, (digital) inequalities are explored ethnographically and participatively, and young people are encouraged to perceive themselves as active digital producers and to discover digital professions. In co-design workshops, they become digital experts at eye level and conceptualize a customized and easily accessible smartphone app for creating job applications.
The resulting scalable workshop concept, as well as the participatory app that will be developed, should, in the long run, help young people to overcome hurdles and to reduce insecurities with digital tools and processes in the context of education and work.
